Beauty Myth and the Cinderella Complex: Youth Beauty and Money – Is That All There Is?
Jaded Heart
She places her in a small bowl and kneels before him. He divides his affection as Loose Change – amused themselves with a glance of gratitude. For a fleeting moment they both claim that an exchange of value has occurred. She remembers a time when he wanted her with passion. She remembers a time when they all did tricks for her. She remembers who she was and the power of seduction, the power of youth, a beautiful face, sexuality and vitality. She dreamed dreams of all things possible. Of course the biggest dream of all echoes through her girls think “I want to be a bride.” It so vividly recalls her wedding, was all she ever wanted and often thinks that her “princess day”. L 1
Daddy princess named her as he tucked her into bed at night. She believed she was his princess and never questioned his predictions of one day becoming a beautiful woman, who love and live happily ever after.
What a joke. What a great big fat lie. Was she really so deluded? Was it bad luck, bad decisions, wrong choices or is the dream for only “the others”. It probably never occurred to her that a princess, by definition, young beautiful.
Cinderella probably stay and it all started and it was reinforced over and in books, films, discussions and culture.
As a child she wondered about ‘him’ and played dress-up games with her friends. They were all named and Mrs. prepared tea for when Mr. came home. They were bride dolls and baby dolls. She conceived and designed their future married happiness. He was handsome, successful, rich and romantic.
Girls were not really expecting too much with things like education or funding. That was, unless you have a ‘Plain Jane’. No, boys and girls when they’re too smart anyway. Beauty is the key – beauty is everything. Beauty is your ticket to “happily ever after.” L 1
Happily ever after always had me a bit bewildered. Most girls seemed to be very comfortable with the story ends happily ever after. It nagged at me a bit – and actually it worried me a lot. I kind of experienced it a bit like death. It seemed to me that when you married your story ready. Still a long and happy so wonderful why not become a different story, an even better story L 1?
Another thing that really confused me was that as a teenager, we were very obsessed with our appearance and all work our magic, but something seemed very, very strange. The married women in my city were anything but examples of happily ever after. I do not mean to be unkind, but these women really scared me. The men were neither kings nor charming.
(I was wondering about the girl who kissed the frog, the prince. Many warts I would expect and probably is not too far either from reality.) 1
Well I L do not know who had warts or who had what, I was just observing and off. I saw men who drank too much and shouted too loud. Women dresses in thread bare and grubby children hanging from them. Hair curlers in plastic clothespins and in mouths. Daytime soaps and talkback radio. I certainly knew nothing about “all the wealth in the country.” Enough to fags for the week and a punt on the ponies, perhaps, but no diamonds or mink coats that were the status symbols time.

Things have changed a little since then and women of today at least question some of these issues. Fortunately, women now gain education, good jobs and independent incomes. Many, also believe they are well able to look after children on their own instead of lasting relationships abuse. To hear women talk you would think that they really have analyzed and resolved their conflicts Cinderella, but do they have? L 1
Does intellect really root childhood expectations? Do we still believe that a woman should be beautiful to attract and retain a partner? How much of our happiness and security depends on our youth and sexuality? L 1
Aren’t successful, intelligent, middle-aged women still secretly dream of ‘him’. One marriage, two marriages, three marriages, four! L 1
Perhaps as Cindella Part 2 was ever written, we have discovered that Cinderella is indeed a long and happy life. She would have passed through the natural stages of life with grace and charm. They could have surrendered the things of youth easily and naturally as they have become a complete and competent woman in her own right. Perhaps her prince initial lust and fascination gave way to a deeper respect, friendship and trust that such a deep bond and true love, that they indeed live happily ever formed. Is it not possible for her warmth, generosity, wisdom, humor and true nature of a greater value if they both evolved? L 1
I think this is a likely scenario. I certainly appreciate the appeal of youth, beauty and sensuality, but it’s not my measure of human value. These things would probably gain my attention for about ten minutes. Now, I’m not going to suggest that good-looking people are stupid, or stupidly, but this is often very stereotyped, it is not correct. Being good looking does not make a person more stupid than someone who is clearly more interesting. We must also accept that rich is not a measure of value as a human being. Money is good and can make life a little easier on many levels, but it does not all rich men’s ideal man, nor does it mean that wealth makes a man a missing inferior partner.
We just need to do away with all these unrealistic expectations and judgments and what is true is to define ourselves. It is certainly easy enough to just sit for a minute or two and yourself why you love the people you ask. I think your list may be quite similar to mine, integrity, humor, empathy, warmth, intelligence and anything that engages or connects me to that person. I really prefer sitting with a funny, interesting Fat Boy on the back of the room rather than staring at a male stripper on stage – that is sure.
If we are able to get clear on what we want and need then maybe we can dismantle and our Cinderella delusion.

Now, this is where it gets really interesting. Billions and billions of dollars change hands due to clever marketing tactics capitalize on our belief Cinderella. In extreme cases, women can be so convinced that beauty is the only measure of worth, they literally destroy themselves. You think I’m crazy? Warm, beautiful, precious, smart, talented people are going to take themselves right out of the game of life. They’re going to do it consciously and deliberately, and I will tell you why.
Brainwashing. It’s so incredibly easy to do what we have already bought into the princess faith as children. Reinforcing the idea that being beautiful makes us happy or that the lack of beauty makes us undesirable is the perfect marketing formula. Powerful and effective marketing requires subtle, consistent and emotionally charged interpretation. Everywhere we look we see images of beauty and youth to achieve success, love, romance, sex, wealth, admiration, safety and happiness. Not so obvious is the underlying message that without beauty, we are not worthy, nor are we able to things.
Men these victims, but their version of self-worth is tied to money, success, power and prestige. Lives have been devastated by faith in this BS! It’s not true. It is not even logical, and it is as clear as day, but we still believe. Not only we believe, we actually promote ourselves. The effect of this form of marketing is that people themselves to reach the point of total worthlessness and disappear into himself. The really sad and pathetic motivation behind it is all just greed and money. And we bought it all, the faith, the solution and products. We allowed them to break us and then to us and we paid a lot of money for this privilege.
Get – some clever-dick is a mess of mud pack, put it in a crystal bowl and go on TV and convince us that This gunk will smooth out wrinkles and give you a youthful, seductive completion. His size, a larger and more ambitious crook do not believe the amount of dollars rolling in and decides to crank it a bit. He has a magical syringe pumps poison in your face, your hamstrings expression and calls it “a cure for frown and smile lines. It is phenomenal! He makes a bundle and inspire many others to come up with all kinds of gimmicks and gadgets.
Well, nobody in their right mind would believe this crap! L 1
That unless it is repeated over and over. That’s the thing with the brainwashing, but repetition. It also helps to have witnesses, we want to know others have tried and can confirm that it works for them. Celebrities (a marketing tool) would disagree with crap if it was not true would they? Beautiful celebrities (The epitome of happily ever after) show us their secrets to success: L 1
Silicone bags put breasts
Vacuums suck thighs
Daisy Duck lips
Acid skin peels
Plastic nose, cheeks and chin
And sew and turn that vagina! L 1
You to have a joke – no one should be fooled do that! Billions of dollars say you’re wrong. All it takes is to convince you that you are not okay, you should not be dignified, not sympathetic, and not ever be happy. And that is so easy to do, because from the beginning that you brainwashed to believe that love is only for the young, beautiful and rich. You probably do not realize this, but you, yes you are a part of the propaganda and you are endorsing and encouraging it.
Your ridiculous stiletto shoes that your feet are deformed and weakened knees and ankles are a part of the game. The yo-yo dieting, binging and purging. Your outrageous expensive clothes, perfumes and cosmetics are all play a part in perpetuating “The Beauty Myth. L 1
Now do not get me wrong here, I am not against people who look good. I totally agree that good looks can make us feel good. I am also aware that looking good can be attractive and seductive. But it is not so! L 1
It the lies that I find offensive, the stupidity and the destruction that lies in maintaining. I’m not talking about makeup stains or improving skin tone, I’m talking about the cosmetic industry that your true beauty. I’m talking about The Cinderella complex, our own participation in the maintenance of these unrealistic and dangerous beliefs. Women are to compete with other women in a battle of illusion, disrespecting and destroying themselves and their sisters.
This is what it all comes down to: We are brainwashed to believe that youth and beauty like happiness – which translates into love and security. That’s the whole Cinderella quest. We all want love and be loved and feel secure. What have we all been brainwashed to believe that love and security are available only for the young, beautiful or rich.
Men have not escaped, they suffer from the scandal even Prince Charming. Money is the mark of a man. Short, fat, bald, cigar smoking millionaires dripping with young hopeful stars – what a pathetic sight to see! But someone obviously believes it.
I’m not trying to downgrade wealth, having money is good, much better than not and goes for beauty. The point is that we have accepted as a measure of human value. Worse than that, though we allow ourselves to be judged and we judge others by this criterion. Is not it time we set examples of human value by remaining true to who we are? Is not beauty really just a mask? Let’s all just peel it off and have a look at what inside.
Every age has its own beauty. In many cultures the elders are the wise and respected members of the community. Or simply the most beloved and honored. Is not it time that we all have a more realistic view of these ideals and worked to reform and reconsider our values? It is time for Prince Charming to show some integrity. Tonight if you hot wax your legs, think of me, curled up on the lounge wearing pajamas and Ugg boots, laughing, talking and loving my old man. Heh, I’m not Cinderella myself! L 1
